On CNN’s “The Source” broadcast Monday, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) said the border issue is President Joe Biden’s “responsibility” and that he was “wrong” on the issue. Biden, who has been grappling with the issue in recent days, said: , that was after Republicans “pressured” the issue.
“When I looked at what happened…about 10 days ago when the vote was taken, I came to this conclusion,” Manchin said. [in] In the Senate to secure the border…this is what our Republican colleagues wanted, and they pushed hard for it. And they said they weren’t going to vote on any aid until they secured the border. I also agreed with them. I think President Biden was wrong about the border. Whatever the reason, it’s his responsibility to help people around the world who have been displaced by the pandemic. But he’s coming to the table now. He understands the gravity and danger of what we face and is willing to accept, secure our borders, end catch-and-release, change the definition of asylum, and give us staff. Helped negotiate a very good bill. …And they took one thing out of there, Caitlan, they took one thing out of there, and the 5,000 number is what you heard. And they said, “Oh, that’s 5,000 a day.” Apparently they allow up to 5,000 requests a day. That is the furthest thing from the truth. Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), the most decent and honorable man in the entire Senate, a conservative, wanted to negotiate and make sure that we could only judge 5,000 people. ”
He went on to say, “The border is in crisis, and I saw my friends leave when they decided to go through border security and were on board three days ago. They cringed and walked away because they were coming at us as fast as they could, and I said, we’re not solving anything in Washington.”
