Mets’ Jorge Lopez fires perfect inning in spring training outing

Notable items during the Mets’ spring training practice Tuesday in Tampa:

high score

Jorge Lopez pitched a perfect inning during Tuesday’s live batting practice and looked the sharpest of the four pitchers in attendance, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said.

Lopez, a reliever, joined the Mets this offseason on a one-year contract worth $2 million.

withered tree

Francisco Lindor broke his bat (an unusual occurrence in live batting practice) while trying to handle an inside pitch from left-hander Sean Manaea (who pitched two innings).

It caught my eye

The Mets wasted no time preparing for game situations by incorporating pitch clocks and pitch coms into live batting practice. A problem with the pitch com interrupted the session, causing Harrison Bader to crack a joke loudly from the deck. “One finger is a fastball.”

Wednesday schedule

The Mets continue full-team workouts ahead of Saturday’s Grapefruit League opener against the Cardinals at Clover Park.
