Specifically, Mr. Adams announced that his office would further reduce city-funded services for border crossers and illegal aliens by another 10% and implement billions of dollars in additional budget cuts for New Yorkers. He said he was canceling his plans to do so.
But at the same time, Adams is charging border crossers and undocumented immigrants, most of whom continue to live on city taxpayers, with prepaid debit cards that could end up costing them more than $53 million. is defending his office’s decision to provide the .
Adams said if the program is deemed a “success” by city officials, it will expand access to prepaid debit cards for border crossers and undocumented immigrants.
“I know you look at the first brush and say, ‘Wait a minute, what are you doing, handing out cards to people?'” Adams said. “This was a small shift that we are making in his 500-person pilot project. If this is successful, we will expand further.”
Over the next three fiscal years, illegal immigration could cost New Yorkers $12 billion.
