On CNN’s “The Source” broadcast Wednesday, CNN political commentator Paul Begala responded to reports that President Joe Biden is considering stricter executive measures on the border, saying that Democrats are “We were slow in reaching the conclusions that we did.” “Getting order to our immigration system” was something former President Barack Obama understood, and after saying the border must be controlled “at a later date,” Biden added, “Now we need to get them in order.” “I’m trying to give you that.”
“I think the president is right, which is that we need new laws,” Begala said. “And the only way to win the political debate is if he says we have to control the border now, albeit belatedly. It’s time to say: If Congress gives me the authority, I will close our borders.”
He then added: “People want order. We love immigrants. I think W was right, and I think Obama was right. We used to believe that we were a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants. And I think the Democratic Party was slow to come to the conclusion that we need order. Once there is order, people will open up and love immigrants and want immigrants. But they… There has to be order. Biden is going to order them from now on.”
