Volkswagen is doing a recall The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Thursday that more than 261,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada have a problem with a suction jet pump seal in the fuel tanks of these vehicles, causing a leak and creating a fire hazard. announced that it is possible.

“The suction jet pump in the fuel tank is designed to purge fuel from the evaporative exhaust gas (EVAP) system,” the company said in a letter to dealers. “If certain seals within the affected suction jet pumps fail, fuel can flow directly into the EVAP system.
“If this happens, fuel can build up within the EVAP system and leak through the charcoal canister filter element. If there is an ignition source, the leaking fuel can cause a fire. ” added Volkswagen.

The company noted that customers whose vehicles are affected by this issue may notice refueling issues when fuel builds up within the EVAP system, including premature fuel nozzle shutoffs and fuel spills.
Drivers and vehicle occupants may also notice a fuel odor.

Volkswagen Group said customers experiencing these issues should contact an authorized dealer to have their vehicle diagnosed.

Dealers will replace the suction pump in affected vehicles free of charge. Repairs are not yet available, but dealers and vehicle owners will be notified in writing as soon as the fuel pump issue can be fixed.
Notices will be mailed to owners on April 12, 2024.
