Victims of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7th filed a lawsuit against the Associated Press for allegedly paying a Hamas member who also acted as a “stringer” cameraman for the news agency. announced that they have filed a federal lawsuit.
The Associated Press reported that freelance photographer Hassan Esraia, who was seen carrying a grenade near the Gaza border during the attack and had previously taken photos with Gaza-based Hamas terror leader Yahya Sinwar, was forced to sever ties.
Later, an Associated Press freelancer, along with a Reuters freelance cameraman, broadcast live video encouraging Gazans to participate even though the October 7 attack was still underway, reported by monitoring organization HonestReporting. It was done.
In a press statement Thursday, the National Jewish Advocacy Center (NJAC) said:
The National Jewish Advocacy Center (NJAC) is collaborating with attorneys at the Law Offices of David I. Schoen. Mark Migdal and Hayden. Pennsylvania LSN Law. Goldfeder & Terry LLC represents plaintiffs affected by the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack by Hamas in a lawsuit against the Associated Press (AP) as a defendant for materially supporting terrorist activities. A federal complaint was filed in the Southern District of Florida. Payments they made to known Hamas operatives.
Since October 7, several major media outlets have published photos of Hamas atrocities. The Associated Press revealed that at least one of the so-called “journalists” they are paying for some of these real-time images, including Israeli hostages being taken to Gaza, is actually a Hamas affiliate. I paid even though I had been warned in advance. It’s a clear sign that they were not pretending to be the journalists chosen by The Associated Press, but were functioning as full participants in the Hamas terror squad that carried out the Oct. 7 attack. In doing so, the complaint alleges, the Associated Press aided and abetted Hamas in carrying out the worst genocide of Jews since the Holocaust. Plaintiffs in this case include survivors of the attacks, families of those killed, and innocent civilians forced from their homes as a result of Hamas’ actions.
The defense team, led by lead attorney David Schoen, contacted The Associated Press before the filing. “But the Associated Press has confirmed what the evidence has established, namely that at least one of the people they are paying is affiliated with Hamas. In fact, this arrangement was an open secret, so much so that it was photographed three years ago. A photo posted by one of the family members showing himself being kissed by the deranged terrorist Sinwar was widely circulated in the media.
“The First Amendment and core principles of free speech certainly protect the AP’s right to hold and publish even the most offensive views,” said NJAC Director Mark Gold. Feder said. “But the allegations in this lawsuit have nothing to do with what the Associated Press says and everything to do with what the Associated Press has done. News organizations have no right to pretend they don’t know who they’re paying.” They have no special right to act with impunity. It doesn’t matter whether they are freelancers or not. The problem is that the Associated Press was providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. , and not in what capacity the terrorists were cashing the checks. We hope that these lawsuits will draw a line in the sand and provide some basic level of accountability. Masu.”
