A judge set bail Thursday at $4 million for an Ohio woman charged with murder in the suffocation death of her 5-year-old adopted son.
Pamie Mae, 48, of Columbus, is also charged with kidnapping and child endangerment in the death of Darnell Taylor, whose body was found in a sewer drain on Feb. 16. She said nothing during her brief hearing and showed no visible emotion.

Police said the discovery of the body came two days after May told her husband her child was no longer alive and abruptly left the house while speaking with a 911 caller. An Amber Alert was immediately issued for her and her child, and she was eventually taken into custody the next day in the Cleveland suburb of Brooklyn, about 240 miles from Columbus.

Police said May was found wandering around in a nightgown, and she told investigators where the boy’s body could be found. Authorities have not released a motive for the killing.
May had been the boy’s adoptive mother since May 2023. The boy’s biological family was informed of the boy’s death and May’s arrest.
During the court hearing, Assistant Franklin County Attorney Tyler McCoy said May was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and had exhibited possessive and controlling behavior in the past.
