Google getting rid of Pay app in June

Google will shut down its Google Pay app for U.S. users in early June, ending a service that was reported to be a potential replacement for Android Pay and Google Wallet.

The Google Pay app will no longer be available in the US starting June 4, but will remain accessible in India and Singapore.

Users in the US can continue to access Google Pay’s most popular features, including managing payment methods and paying in stores, through Google Wallet.

However, starting June 4, consumers will no longer be able to request, receive, or send money using the U.S. version of the Google Pay app. US users will also need to transfer their Pay app balances to their bank accounts by that date.

The company said consumers who used the Pay app to search for shopping transactions will now be able to do so through Google Search.

Google Pay was originally rolled out in 2018 as the company’s new integrated payment service that combines Google Wallet and Android Pay.
