Steve Kerr plans to stay in the Bay Area for a little while longer.
The Golden State Warriors have reportedly agreed to a record-breaking two-year, $35 million contract extension with their head coach.
Kerr’s current contract expires after this season, so Kerr’s contract will take effect next season. ESPN reports.

His annual value of $17.5 million is the highest ever for a coach.
Kerr, 58, recently won his 500th game and led Golden State to four championships with a star-studded roster led by Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
However, things haven’t gone according to plan for the Warriors this season. Amid his struggles, Thompson was moved to the bench.
Green was also suspended indefinitely by the NBA for repeated hard fouls and unruly behavior on the floor — before the start of last season, Green was hit by then-teammate Jordan at close range during practice. Hit the pool.
But it’s clear that the struggles won’t outweigh the dynastic fortune the Warriors have had since the 2014-15 season, the first of four titles since then.

This new contract will coincide with Curry’s contract, which also ends at the end of the 2025-26 season. Kerr’s winning percentage of .655 is the fifth-best in NBA history.

The Warriors have reached a total of six Finals since Kerr coached them. After a record-breaking 73-9 season, the Warriors took a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers, which led to the addition of Kevin Durant. They also lost to the Toronto Raptors in 2019.
His record since joining the Warriors is 501 wins and 264 losses.
