Rams coach Sean McVay casts doubt on Stetson Bennett’s 2024 status: ‘We don’t have a backup quarterback’

Shortly after the Los Angeles Rams season ended, head coach Sean McVay announced that quarterback Stetson Bennett, who left the team early for undisclosed reasons and was placed on the reserve/non-football list in September, He seemed cautiously optimistic.

But apparently he got more of an answer, and it doesn’t seem to be pretty for the two-time Georgia champion.

McVay seemed to acknowledge that the team has an open roster spot.

Bennett made a public appearance at a Georgia football game in November. At the time, McVay said Bennett’s absence was “bigger than football.”

The Rams selected Bennett in the fourth round of last year’s draft, and he spent the preseason with the Rams. However, in mid-September he was placed on the reserve/non-football player list.

Bennett played four seasons at the University of Georgia, the last two as a starter. He totaled 8,429 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions in 42 games, including an incredible senior season of 4,128 yards and 27 touchdowns, and a blowout win over TCU in 2023 that earned him an All-America title. This includes those who won.
