Blue Jays left-hander Tim Meiza is coming off one of his best seasons on the field, but the longtime reliever is coming off of one of Toronto’s Grapefruit League openers against the Phillies on Saturday. He was forced to serve as bat boy for the first three innings.
reason?
The 32-year-old was punished for finishing last in the team’s fantasy football league last year. TSN reportedbefore the left-hander was seen retrieving his bat on a field in Dunedin, Florida, on Saturday afternoon.
To add insult to injury, Meiza had to wear a jersey number that read “4-10” to commemorate the record that went down in the basement.
The paper reported that Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending injury, even though Mayza, the Blue Jay’s longest-tenured player, had Dolphins top wideout Tyreek Hill on the team. Due to this, he pointed out that he left during the football season.
Meiza will be a key part of Toronto’s bullpen this season, which is on track for its third consecutive year of strong results, as the Blue Jays aim to advance past the wild-card round for the first time since 2016.
