Gun Battle Mexican State Government Tried to Downplay

Authorities in Tamaulipas tried to downplay a deadly cartel attack on Mexican troops just south of the Texas border. Violence in Tamaulipas is increasing by the day, but government officials continue to downplay the violence, call it fake news and insist the border state is safe.

The soldiers were driving in a convoy near the Buenos Aires neighborhood in the south of the city when Gulf Cartel gunmen opened fire on them from a bushy area to the west of their location.

The soldiers repelled the attack, called for backup and air support, and killed 12 gunmen (10 men and two women), all wearing tactical gear and carrying weapons. Tamaulipas state and Mexican federal authorities attempted to suppress any photos or videos of the shootout.

Despite these efforts, Breitbart Texas obtained various leaked documents and memos from Mexico’s attorney general’s office documenting the investigation into the shooting and the shooter’s description.

In the aftermath of the gunfight, the unarmored military vehicle was damaged by multiple large-caliber gunfire. Breitbart Texas also obtained leaked photos of the vehicle that government officials had tried to keep private.

Experts and politicians from parties other than Mexico’s ruling party have claimed that the Morena party government, which includes Tamaulipas state, has handed the state over to drug cartels in exchange for political donations and power.
