Long Island high school students are raising money to support inclusive initiatives and supporting sports activities for athletes with disabilities.
Lacrosse My Heart, a nonprofit led by six student lacrosse players from New York’s Roslyn High School, recently raised enough funds to support the Long Island Hammerheads wheelchair lacrosse team.
“My friends, co-founders and I have been playing together since we were 5 years old and lacrosse has given us so much, so we connect through organizations like the Hammerheads and people who aren’t.” “We wanted people to be exposed to lacrosse at a young age and show their love for the sport,” organization co-founder Zach Machar said on Saturday’s “Fox & Friends Weekend.” ” he said.

The nonprofit organization supports athletes like Joe Slaninka, a member of the Hammerheads team, and said community support makes all the difference.
“We’re a community-based program. There aren’t a lot of great fundraising opportunities for us. So organizations like Zach come to us and say, ‘We want to help you and do something.’ When you say that, it means a lot,” Slaninka said. “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy said.
“This also kind of shows that we play lacrosse. [and] They play lacrosse, so that’s what they have in common. ”

According to some, “Lacrosse My Heart” A site detailing the group’s goalssays it is “dedicated to making lacrosse accessible to people of all abilities” and raising “funds and awareness to support inclusive efforts within the sport.”
That includes providing wheelchairs for players with physical disabilities, similar to how they helped the Hammerheads.

”[These high schoolers] It really restored faith in America’s youth. [by taking] Thinking about this initiative[ing] About people other than ourselves, people who are in need…from lacrosse community to lacrosse community,” said Mike Nelson, president of the Long Island chapter of USA Lacrosse.
