U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas this week arrested several undocumented immigrants with criminal records, including one with ties to a Mexican drug cartel and one convicted of child sexual assault.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that Border Patrol agents have arrested more than a dozen immigrants who entered the United States illegally through the El Paso area.

Background checks revealed that those arrested included sex offenders, child predators and drug traffickers.
Other crimes include illegal possession of a firearm, assault, domestic violence, and robbery. Some of them have been linked to gangs and Mexican drug cartels such as La Linea, Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, Artitas Asesinios, Cartel de los Soles, and MS-13. found.

CBP says many of the immigrants arrested are involved in murder, kidnapping, extortion and other criminal activity from Central America.
Their concerns come amid the arrest of an illegal immigrant in the death of Augusta University student Laken Riley. UGA police found the 22-year-old’s body with “visible injuries” in a wooded area behind Herrick Lake on Thursday afternoon.

Jose Ibarra, 26, is a Venezuelan national who entered the United States illegally in El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was released on parole.
