A majority of Americans now support building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a Monmouth University poll released Monday.
The poll found that 61% of Americans say illegal immigration is a “very serious issue” that will lead to the 2024 election cycle.
“Illegal immigration has emerged as the defining issue of this presidential election year. Other Monmouth polls have found this to be the case.” [President] “Biden is the weakest policy area of any Democrat,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Public Opinion Research Institute.
Similarly, 61% of Americans say immigrants seeking political asylum at the border should remain in Mexico until their claims are processed. The poll found that only 35% of people said they should be allowed to enter the United States while they wait.

Meanwhile, 53% of participants said they supported building a wall on the southern border, while only 46% opposed it.
This is the first time a majority of Americans support a border wall since Monmouth began polling on the issue in 2015, but the poll has a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.
7.2 million illegal immigrants under Biden, more than the population of 36 states
Monmouth conducted a telephone poll of 902 American adults from February 9th to 12th.
Another Monmouth poll conducted last week found Biden’s approval rating on immigration was just 26%. By party affiliation, just over half (54%) of Democrats said they supported Biden’s handling of immigration issues, while 21% of independents and 2% of Republicans said the same. I stayed there.

But Monday’s Monmouth poll found that nearly half of Americans, 47%, say Biden’s bill doesn’t go far enough. Another 28% said the bill was about right, and 12% said it was too strict.
