Trash talk gets a little personal between Cam Newton and two Top Shelf Performance (TSP) coaches before a brawl breaks out during a youth 7-on-7 football game in Atlanta on Sunday. It became too much.
Newton, a former NFL MVP quarterback, made headlines after a social media video surfaced showing him getting into an altercation with TSP brothers TJ Brown and Steph Brown during the tournament, and his recollection of the incident.
TJ said this after TSP defeated Newton’s C1N in a heated battle on Saturday. fox news digital The next day, the incident escalated during an interaction with Newton in the parking lot, police said.
“Sunday comes and I’m walking through the parking lot to the field,” TJ said. “Cam jumped out of the car and said, ‘Hey, I’m sorry, I can’t work today. What do we bet today? What do we bet?’
“I’m like, ‘I can’t bet against you, brother.’ You’ve already won three or four times. You have to beat me first.”
“He said, ‘What are you going to bet on? We had a lot of money. We’re never going to run out of money.’ That’s when I told him, ‘That’s your problem.’ All you care about is money. You think it’s all about money. you can’t buy me And I leave. ”
The Newton and Brown brothers have a history.
According to Fox News Digital, they have known each other since 2020, when Newton, a former NFL MVP, was hired as head coach by TJ for one of the C1N 7-on-7 teams.

Steph was Newton’s wide receivers coach and a member of C1N’s offensive support staff.
The brothers said they left C1N in 2022 to form their own sevens team, TSP, due to tensions with Newton as TJ’s team apparently defeated the team Newton was coaching at the time.
TJ and Steph recalled that things got personal when the team noticed Newton on the stairs allegedly mocking TSP during the game.
Video footage shows Newton on the stairs, where the altercation appears to have turned physical.
“When he’s warming up, as you can see in most of the videos, Cam is chanting something like ‘Ayo!’ So he yelled it out on the sideline and then told them, “Hey, guys, go out there and do that to them, too,” TJ said.
“Then all the players ran up to us and were like, ‘Ayo!'” I tell you, he knows a lot of players don’t mess with his players, and some of them Some players are cool.Obviously they’re running towards our players, weeball. [Sports] everyone [who organized the event], they’re recording it. All I said to the camera was, “This time when you take him down, don’t delete the film.” Because the last time I beat him, the last three times, I suddenly ran out of film. “Oh, I didn’t record anything. I took a picture.”
“Maybe three minutes into the game, he was sitting on top with all the kids under the tent screaming at us,” TJ said. “‘Hey, I know that game.’ It’s mine. I taught you everything you know. I’m your daddy. We made it all together. Everything you guys are going on. I’m the cause of this. He’s just shouting these things.”
A parent who was present at the altercation and chose to remain anonymous confirmed to Fox News Digital that Newton was making fun of TSP.
After the game, Steph confronted Newton and claimed that the former All-Pro quarterback grabbed him during a face-to-face interaction.
TJ, who was walking up the stairs and witnessed the incident, threw a punch at Newton, and the fight spread to a nearby fence and grass area.
“If you were walking up the stairs and you saw a 6-foot-6-inch guy grab your brother and try to throw him down the stairs, you would intervene,” TJ said. “It doesn’t matter who you are. Rather, it’s a punch, rather it’s a push, rather it’s a grab him. You’re going to do something. I mean, at that point, Cam is different. The fact that he laid hands on an adult man means that something will happen behind the scenes.”
Atlanta police and event security intervened to break up the altercation.
No arrests were made and all involved had to leave the event.
“It wasn’t supposed to happen,” TJ said. “First of all, on the organizers side, we weren’t even supposed to play against Cam. They were on the complete opposite side of the bracket.”
TSP’s coaching staff expressed regret for their involvement in the brawl and said they felt there was a lack of accountability from Newton and Weeball Sports.
They also claimed that Newton got into an issue with an event photographer at a 7-on-7 tournament in Miami earlier this month.
“This is typical Cam Newton behavior in a 7-on-7 situation,” T.J. said. “But the situation yesterday was a little bad, so you can also ask the people in his organization. Cam would never act like that.
“I’ve seen him talk like crazy to the parents, talk like crazy to some of the kids, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, the kids are disrespecting Cam. Because he’s trying to make people think, ‘I’m just there.”’ No, Cam is also disrespecting people.
“He needs to understand that we are human beings. No one is going to tolerate you disrespecting them or talking funny about them. I know how to brush it off. But not everyone is like that.”
TJ and Steph said they “want to work through this” with Newton for the sake of the kids and players.
In the joint statement, The AthleticSteph and TJ said Top Shelf is “actively addressing this issue internally.”
“We are deeply concerned by the recent incident involving Mr. Cam Newton and our thoughts are with all parties affected,” the statement said. “Violence has no place in our community. We strongly condemn all forms of aggression.”
Newton has not yet publicly addressed the incident.
