The San Diego Immigrant Welcome Center ran out of money in just four and a half months. The center burns through $1.5 million a month to provide migrants with shelter and a place to charge their cellphones until they can be processed and sent to their final destination.
Since October, the center has processed about 81,000 migrants.
In recent days, migrants have flooded the Iris Transit Center in San Ysidro, just north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
