Don Lemon paid $24.5M to settle firing from CNN: report

Don Lemon and CNN reportedly reached an agreement after the network fired the anchor last year.

The deal would see CNN pay $24.5 million to the ousted broadcaster. According to The Wrap. That hefty amount is the total amount Lemon would have received if his final contract had ended after three and a half years.

A representative for Lemon did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The former “Don Lemon Tonight” anchor was fired last year after he and a female colleague made a series of sexist comments on air. CNN

Lemon, 57, last year moved his popular prime-time show to mornings with co-hosts Caitlin Collins and Poppy Harlow and criticized presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s sexist comments, 51. He was criticized for doing so. It’s past its prime.

The former “Don Lemon Tonight” host took a short leave of absence and apologized to viewers and female colleagues for his comments.

“Thank you for the opportunity to come back to @CNNThisMorning today,” Lemon tweeted in February 2023. “To my network, colleagues, and wonderful viewers, I am sorry.

“I hear you, I’m learning from you, and I’m committed to doing better,” he continued. “see you soon.”

Just a few months later, a “stunned” Lemon announced on X (formerly Twitter) that not only had CNN fired him, but his agent had also informed him.

“After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought someone in management would have the common sense to tell me directly,” he wrote.

“I never had any inkling that I wouldn’t be able to continue doing the work I love at the network. It’s clear that there are some larger issues at play.”

Shortly after, CNN Communications issued a statement He called Lemon’s story “inaccurate.”

“Don Lemon’s statements regarding this morning’s events are inaccurate. He was offered the opportunity to meet with management, but instead issued a statement on Twitter,” the statement reads.

In June 2023, a journalist claimed that CNN fired him for refusing to give airtime to “liars and bigots.”

Lemon, who used the holidays to lose 30 pounds, launched a new show on X earlier this year.
