Trump won early states as the Republican race quickly gained ground, but despite still trailing Trump in the polls, he continues to have strong fundraising efforts and is expected to move forward next month. There is an ongoing conflict with former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, who is looking ahead to Super Tuesday.
The Republican primary was already seen as a showdown between Trump and Haley.
Binkley’s resignation came on the day of the Michigan primary, the final step in the Republican presidential nomination process before dozens of races take place on Super Tuesday next week.
