The widow of the first Super Bowl MVP, Bart Starr, died this week at the age of 89.
Cherry Starr was married to the Green Bay Packers legend from 1954 until his death in 2019.
Her son, Bart Jr., confirmed her death to WBAY on Tuesday in Green Bay.

“My mother passed away a few hours ago, and she passed away with a feeling of complete peace and comfort. The sadness of this loss goes back to the memory of having had her as a part of our lives for so long. I cannot express my gratitude enough,” he told the media.
Rawhide Youth Services, an organization the Starrs joined in 1965, was the first to announce her death.
Packers CEO Mark Murphy released a statement online.
“The Packers family is deeply saddened to learn of Cherry Starr’s passing today. She will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and great sense of humor. Her generosity and support of the community is incredible and is greatly appreciated by so many.” He said.

“As Bart and Cherry wrote letters to many people around the league, Cherry was especially passionate about continuing Bart’s legacy of supporting a new generation of quarterbacks. We know you cherished his letter. We share our deepest condolences to Bart.” Junior and the entire Starr family. ”
Cherry attended Auburn, and her husband was a star player at rival University of Alabama. So she dropped out and moved to Tuscaloosa. After he was drafted, they moved to Green Bay.
The Packers selected Starr with the 200th pick in the 1956 draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl four times and was named All-Pro twice.

He won NFL titles in 1961, ’62, ’65, ’67, and ’68. He was his 1966 NFL MVP and was named to his All-Decade team of the 1960s. Starr was also named MVP of the first two Super Bowls. The star also has an NFL award named after him. This award is presented annually to an athlete with outstanding character and leadership.
The team retired his number 15 in 1973, making him the third player to receive that honor. Four years later, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
