Williamson ‘unsuspending’ presidential campaign | The Hill

Author Marianne Williamson announced Wednesday that she is “lifting the pause” on presidential campaigning, claiming that American voters are “watching a slow-motion car crash” with the current candidates.

“Hey, I have an important announcement to make. As of today, I am lifting the suspension of my campaign for President of the United States.” Williamson said in a video posted to X.the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Biden’s most likely challenger announced in a video three weeks ago that he was suspending his campaign.

She admitted in a video Wednesday that she declined because she was “losing the race.”

“But there are far more important things at stake here than horse racing. And we have to respond to that,” she said.

Williamson’s announcement came on the heels of Michigan’s primary results, where former President Trump and President Biden easily won their respective primaries.

In the video, the author called President Trump a “fascist” who should be overthrown. She also asked questions about Biden and his economic policies.

“What’s going on? Well, I’ll tell you what’s going on here. Basically, ‘We the People’ don’t own this country now,” she said, adding that the president’s politics He added that it is corrupt for the benefit of corporations.

Williamson, an author and progressive Democrat, ran to the left of Biden, hoping to appeal to voters dissatisfied with established party politics.

Critics say his bid is not sophisticated enough to pose a real threat to the Biden campaign, which is backed by the Democratic National Committee. She faced problems during her election campaign after previously experiencing staffing issues.

“We need a president” who will eliminate student loan debt and provide Medicare for All, free college tuition, paid family leave and a guaranteed living wage, she said Wednesday.

In his return message, Williamson also highlighted the economic challenges facing many Americans. The vast majority of Americans have experienced economic insecurity, she argued, and returning the country to a time when “we actually had a prosperous middle class” would make America great again.

“Someone says [me] Mr. Williamson, you are delusional,” she said. “I’ll tell you what’s delusional. Delusional is just closing your eyes, crossing your fingers, and hoping that somehow Biden and Harris will be able to defeat that behemoth of dark, dark vision.” That is what we are doing.”
