Biden-Harris campaign announces new hires after Michigan primary result ahead of Super Tuesday

The Biden-Harris reelection campaign announced the hiring of three key staffers after some Democrats voted “non-committal” ahead of the Michigan primary and next week’s Super Tuesday.

New hires to the campaign include Alana Mance, political director; Meredith Horton is the national director of voter protection and access. and Ruhi Rustam, director of the National Organization Bureau.

The announcement came a day after about 15% of Michigan Democrats voted for a choice other than President Biden as their party’s nominee, with most opposition shifting to the option labeled “no commitment.”

The new reinforcements will join the race just days before Super Tuesday, March 5, when multiple states vote in their primaries and win hundreds of delegates.

Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement Wednesday that “seasoned operatives” will strengthen the campaign’s efforts and assist in a variety of capacities.

“I’m excited to have these veteran operatives join our team,” said Rodriguez. “This team has unparalleled expertise, creativity and grit, and we need it to win in November. It will be essential.” “We are excited to have Alana, an experienced Biden-Harris operative, lead our political operations. She understands the importance of mobilizing the Biden-Harris coalition. He is a trusted leader with a proven track record of skillfully directing our political efforts.”

Maury Riggan, the campaign’s general counsel, expressed similar praise. “Meredith will be an invaluable asset in leading our voter protection and access programs. Her expertise will help protect the fundamental rights of all Americans to participate in our democracy. , will spearhead the important role our campaign will play as MAGA Republicans openly embrace election denialism and work relentlessly to restrict voting rights.”

Also Wednesday, the Biden campaign announced it would launch a national effort to win support from women in November. The campaign announced that First Lady Jill Biden will lead “Women for Biden-Harris.”

Biden won the Michigan Democratic primary despite pressure from Arab Americans to “abandon” him belatedly because of his continued support for Israel in its war against Hamas. He was ultimately declared the winner of the election.

Super Tuesday will be held in 14 states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia. Voters in American Samoa head to the polls.

Mounce previously served as the campaign’s voting access director. She joined the campaign from the White House as deputy political director in the Office of Political Strategy and Outreach. She previously served as the DNC’s political director and worked on the presidential campaigns of both President Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Horton is a veteran consultant who joins the campaign from consulting firm MPH Concepts, where he is founder and president. She has previously worked at the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Southern Social Justice Coalition, and the Texas Civil Rights Project.

Rustam joined the Biden-Harris campaign from the Democratic National Committee (DNC), where he served as interim national organizing director. She previously worked for Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign.
