CNN host spars with GOP’s Burchett over Biden probe: ‘That’s incorrect’

CNN News Central anchor Boris Sanchez on Wednesday criticized Republican Rep. Tim Burchett (Tennessee) over the House Republican investigation into Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings and potential ties to his father, President Biden. He had a heated argument with the state.

Hunter Biden testified behind closed doors Wednesday before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, where Republicans slammed him over his foreign business dealings. Republicans, who have placed Hunter Biden at the very center of President Biden’s impeachment inquiry, have been demanding his testimony for months.

Asked by Sanchez what specific allegations he wanted to ask the younger Biden about, Burchett said he most wanted to know about the $20 million that the committee accused Hunter Biden of receiving from foreigners. said.

Burchett too pointed out the claim House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has often repeatedly claimed that Biden’s family and associates used more than 20 shell companies to receive bank wires from foreign nationals. ing. He also noted two payments to the president from his brother, James Biden, of $200,000 and $40,000. Democrats say the checks are simply loan repayments.

“It’s a very roundabout route because a typical company doesn’t have 20 so-called shell companies or bank accounts to manage their funds,” Burchett said, later adding: $200,000 seems unreasonable. I don’t know what kind of pickup truck he was buying, but it was pretty extensive. I think we just follow the… trail, there it is. ”

“But the two are confused because, according to documents coming out of the oversight committee, the $200,000 was a loan that Joe Biden gave to his brother James that was later repaid.” Mr. Sanchez interjected. “The documents confirm that it was a loan. And it also happened in 2017, when Joe Biden was not vice president, and there was money in hand for a pickup truck that was returned to his father by Hunter. This is supported by documents that also occurred in 2018 when Mike Pence was Vice President.”

The two continued to spar, and at one point Burchett said, “Hey, hey, I know you’re CNN, but the reality is-“

“Oh, doctor, let’s talk about facts, not networks, doctor, let’s talk about facts,” Sanchez interjected. “Because you’re also… asserting yourself.”

“You keep saying pay the money, you keep saying pay the money, and you say, ‘Well, it’s only $5 million.’ Well, is that OK?” Burchett responded. .

“No, there’s a big difference between whether it’s appropriate for the president’s family to make money off the president’s name and whether it’s ethical. But the question is, is Joe Biden the president and vice president?” As for what he did when he was vice president, whether he abused his power or enriched his family, there is currently no evidence from the oversight committee when he was vice president. He did any of those things.”

“That’s where $20 million went. ‘You saw these accounts,’ Mr. Burchett responded, to which Mr. Sanchez responded, ‘That’s not true, the bank records don’t reflect that… They… They didn’t specifically say – I looked at the bank records – they didn’t say Joe Biden.” He received money from them. Have you ever read your bank records? Because they don’t have Joe Biden’s name on the list. ”

Mr. Burchett then asked Mr. Sanchez if he was going to allow him to speak, to which Mr. Sanchez replied, “I’m not going to let you say anything that’s not true.”

The exchange continued for several more minutes, with Sanchez telling Burchett that he had “enjoyed” the discussion and was “looking forward” to another one in the future.
