In the past, it was common to buy a new mobile phone to get a fresh start. Now just copy all the junk from the old model to the new model.

Sure, it’s fast and crisp, but it’s full of files you don’t need, contacts you haven’t heard from in years, and photos you don’t remember taking or want to see again.

Use your phone’s built-in tools

iPhone has some useful hidden folders that most people don’t know about. That is “duplication”. The Photos app identifies when multiple versions of a photo or video exist, so you can clear all but the highest quality version.

  • In the Photos app, tap album > Duplication. Duplicate photos and videos will appear next to each other.
  • Tap merge To combine duplicates, tap . merge [number] item.

The merged content will be saved in the Recently Deleted Items folder in case you want to undo it. Please hurry.

On Android, Google’s Files app does something similar.

Signs you need a new phone now

  • Open File. displayed at the bottom. clean. Tap on it and you’ll see a list of old screenshots, downloaded files, and other junk that’s stuck on your phone.
  • Select a category and Select file.

Clear forgotten inboxes

No, it’s not your old Yahoo account. I’m talking about text. All those messages, as well as the photos and videos you send and receive, take up space and make it difficult to find the person you really want to talk to.

Just swipe on the chat and you’ll see the option to delete it. You can also long press on a chat to see options.

  • On iPhone, long-press on a text message thread to display a menu.select erase > erase.
  • On Android, press and hold Thread; trash can icon.

Delete marketing text, spam, one-time codes, and anything else taking up space.

Pro tip: You can pin conversations to the top of your text inbox so they always appear at the top.

  • Open setting > general > Transfer or reset your iPhone > reset.
  • select Erase all content and settings.

  • Open setting > General management.
  • Swipe and tap resetafter that Reset data to factory defaults > reset.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to confirm, then tap . Delete all.

For Google Pixel:

  • [設定]>[システム]>[リセット オプション]>[すべてのデータを消去 (出荷時設定にリセット)]Open.
  • Tap Erase All Data to erase all data from your phone’s internal storage.
