At least three police officers were shot and killed Thursday in the northeastern city of Independence, Missouri, officials said.

An Independence Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that two city employees and a law enforcement officer from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were shot.

Police also did not provide details about what led to the shooting or whether a suspect was in custody.

The shooting occurred in the area of ​​E. Bundschu Street and N. Elsea Smith Roads near Highway 24 in northeast Independence.

The Fort Osage School District reported the school was on lockdown out of an abundance of caution, but it was later lifted.
