People familiar with the matter say the big-money talent will become CNN’s history as the station’s rapidly rising new chief cuts budgets and targets anxious anchors with exorbitant pay.
New CEO Mark Thompson is preparing a brutal round of layoffs to turn the network around as ratings plummet, with Anderson Cooper, Chris Wallace, Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper joining The Axeman. sources said.
“Anderson knows he’s on the precipice because he makes a whopping $20 million a year. He’s already started looking for a new job!” a network source exclusively told In Touch. “Chris Wallace received $8 million and we believe he is likely to be a target too!”
Insiders say other network favorites, including $15 million Male Blitzer and $8 million Male Tapper, are also up for the challenge.
