Jamie Komoroski escorted out of jail by dad, freed on $150K bond after killing bride in crash after wedding

A driver accused of killing a bride while drunk behind the wheel on her wedding night was released Friday. Less than a year after his fatal accident.

Jamie Lee Komorowski, 26, was released from the Sheriff’s Al Cannon Detention Center in North Charleston, South Carolina, along with her father, Charles, after posting $150,000 bail earlier that day.

Komorowski, who was wearing a black hoodie and hiding behind his father, was rammed by an SUV outside the prison and sped off in the rain. ABC 4 was shown footage from outside the prison.

As part of his release, Komorowski will be placed under house arrest in Charleston County, South Carolina, wearing a scram ankle monitor. The device is placed on the ankle of “DUI and high-risk alcohol customers” and tests for alcohol in their sweat.24 /7.

She must remain in Charleston County and will only be allowed to leave her approved residence in the event of a medical emergency or court order, according to court records.

The drunk driver suspect was also restricted from driving and surrendered his passport.

Judge Michael Nettles ordered Komorowski to be held in custody as a flight risk during a hearing on August 1, 2023.

However, the judge ruled that if Komorowski’s trial was not scheduled to begin before March, he would be allowed to be released on bail.

Komorowski’s attorney, Chris Gramiccioni, said Friday before his release that his client “is not a flight risk or a danger to the community.”

A trial date has not yet been set, according to Charleston County Court.

Komorowski’s release from prison comes after Samantha Miller, 34, and her new husband Aric Hutchinson, 36, were leaving a wedding reception in Folly Beach on February 11 when she was arrested. Prosecutors say her blood alcohol level was 0.261, more than three times the legal blood alcohol limit, and that she was driving 105 mph in a 25 mph zone when she left a wedding reception. He claims he crashed his car into a party.

Miller, wearing her wedding dress, died at the scene, her new husband suffered brain injuries, and two other passengers were also injured.

Komoroski, who was intoxicated, allegedly told responding officers that “something suddenly hit me” and, in a confused state, repeatedly said, “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Lisa Miller, the bride’s grieving mother, said Thursday she wants her daughter’s murderer to be given the “maximum restrictions possible” while out on bail.

“I hope that includes house arrest, ankle monitoring, and not being able to leave the state,” she said, taking pains to add that the past year has been “very difficult.”

“We all expected her to be tied up for the first time. [last summer] But luckily the judge kept her in custody. I think it has something to do with our shocking statement. ”

Komorowski was charged with four felonies in connection with the fatal crash.

She could face up to 25 years in prison.
