Sen. Joe Manchin, Democrat. Virginia appeared to confront climate protesters on Friday after they confronted them during an appearance at the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by climate change group Climate Defiance shows an activist approaching Manchin during a roundtable discussion.

“Joe Manchin, you got rich selling our futures,” a protester told the senator. “I can’t believe you’re not feeling well. Is it even possible for you to do something like that?”

Manchin quickly stood up and began walking toward the activists, but a man stepped between them.

“You sold our futures,” the activist continued before being pushed to the ground.

The edited video then cuts to Manchin speaking with activists, saying, “Do you guys want to sit down somewhere and talk?”

“I’m not going to sit down,” one of the activists replies. “You receive more funding from fossil fuels than any other senator.”

“You made millions, you made millions from that position. You drive a Maserati,” another activist told Manchin.

“Oh my god,” Manchin can be heard responding.

Manchin hints at third-party investment after Super Tuesday: ‘People are looking for options’

Activists specifically focused on questioning the senator over the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Manchin played a role in securing the pipeline in the Fiscal Responsibility Act and filed his own amicus brief in the Supreme Court case last year.

“Do you think people support this pipeline?” one activist asked the senator directly.

Manchin began explaining why people should support the pipeline before it is cut off by fellow activists.

“They don’t support it,” the activist said.

As Mr. Manchin shook hands with each person before leaving, the activists could be heard shouting, “It’s not our future, it’s not your interest.”
