Trump rails against Willis, Wade as judge weighs disqualification over relationship

Former President Trump continues to attack top prosecutors in his Georgia election overturning trial, as a judge prepares to decide whether the two will be disbarred from the case because of their former relationships.

“Where did Fanny get all that cash? There’s no way she reciprocated her love. ‘Prosecutor’ Nathan Wade is back.” President Trump posed at Truth Social, referring to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) and Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade. “When she realized that her own ‘sex cap’ had been paid for by the people of Georgia, she made up the story.”

The former president’s post stems from a complaint filed in January by Michael Roman, a 2020 Trump campaign operative and co-defendant in the Georgia election case, in which Willis said he had not been on vacation with Wade. Together they accused him of profiting financially from his relationship with Wade.

Judge Scott McAfee on Friday heard closing arguments from Mr. Trump’s lawyers, who argued that Mr. Willis and Mr. Wade should be removed from the extortion case because of conflicts of interest stemming from their relationship. The judge said he could make a decision within two weeks.

That decision will likely depend on how he considers the evidence presented during the three-day hearing. Willis and Wade both took the stand in their own defense, admitting to dating but claiming they broke up last summer.

McAfee previously said that both parties “could be” disbarred from the case if there was evidence that there was “an actual conflict of interest, or an indication of one.”

Trump claimed in an online post that Willis made excuses about the money “after he was arrested.” He went on to say that prosecutors are only “looking for money and fame,” which is why they are the top prosecutors in the “witch hunt” against him.

The former president also claimed that the two worked with President Biden’s Justice Department to go after President Biden.

Trump, the current leading Republican candidate for the White House, has already pleaded not guilty to charges centered on allegedly trying to overturn the results of the state’s 2020 election.

“Horrible! This lawsuit must be dropped – a huge shame for Georgia!” he posted on Truth Social.

Friday’s altercation ended a nearly two-month feud over Willis and Wade’s relationship. Mr. McAfee is likely to issue a speedy ruling against prosecutors soon, but there still appears to be a chance that the trial will be delayed.
