Giants Coach John Harbaugh Riles Up Fans with Bold Comments
John Harbaugh, the new head coach for the Giants, received an enthusiastic reception from eager season ticket holders earlier this week. His remarks, particularly when responding to a question about the team’s past struggles against the Cowboys and Eagles, really got the crowd going.
With a fist pump, he exclaimed, “The Cowboys suck!” This declaration sparked a chorus of cheers from fans gathered at Giants Town Hall in the Beacon Theatre.
“Look, I’m done with what happened last year or even 10 years ago. My focus is on tomorrow’s practice,” he asserted, emphasizing that improvement is vital for the team to, well, surpass the Cowboys this season. You could just imagine the excitement that followed his words.
Harbaugh is set to kick off the Giants’ first OTA practice on Tuesday, officially making his debut against the Cowboys during the Sunday Night Football game at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants have had a tough time lately, posting a 5-18-1 record against NFC East teams over the past five years and not clinching a division title since 2011.
He added, “That rivalry is definitely there. We should also throw in a little animosity for the commanders in Washington too.”
Defensive player Kayvon Thibodeau chimed in, expressing his disdain for the rival teams. “I hate them,” he stated. “This feels like the right moment with the right people and coach. It’s the perfect opportunity for a comeback story.”
1. Big Promises from Skatebo
Rookie Cam Skatebo, known for his flashy plays, made a bold claim about his performance potential this season. After a disappointing start last year due to a serious injury, he joked, “If I play more than 17 games, that’s 300 carries and over 2,000 yards,” hinting at playoff aspirations.
Jackson Dart seemed to agree, quipping that they’ll rely heavily on Skatebo’s skills. It’s clear both players have high hopes for this season.
2. Booing Dexter Lawrence
Similar to two years ago when Saquon Barkley left for the Eagles, fans booed when Dexter Lawrence’s name came up, particularly following his trade to the Bengals. Harbaugh responded to the crowd’s unhappy reactions by stating, “He has a life to lead. We’ve brought in players who want to play here.”
3. New Challenges Ahead
Under former head coach Brian Daboll, practices were kept fairly light. Thibodeau remarked on the shift, noting this approach is more intense yet refreshing, as fans cheered, “It’s about time!” He commented on the passion and detail-oriented approach Harbaugh brings, which resonates with the players.
4. Edge Rusher Strength
The Giants are confident in their edge rusher position. Harbaugh expressed excitement about the team’s depth at tight end, complimenting the new addition of Isaiah Likely alongside others. “I don’t think there’s a better set of tight ends in the league than what we have now,” he suggested.
5. Upcoming Legacy Game
Lastly, the Giants announced a special Legacy Game scheduled against the Cardinals on October 4th at 1 p.m. This event will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1986 Super Bowl victory and include a giveaway of Mark Bavaro bobbleheads. Fans can expect the team to don their classic navy blue uniforms for this occasion.
