Sisters Lily* and Claudia* have been working together for a long time. Even when they had their own children, they always tried to spend quality time together, even if it was just for an afternoon.
Lily’s daughter, Kylie*, is 17 years old and loves babysitting her younger cousins, Mia*, 9, and Nathan*, 7.
Whenever Lily’s mother and aunt go out on a weekend night, Kylie happily babysits Claudia’s children, especially after receiving $30 to $40 in cash as payment.
Teenage aunt demands compensation for two slices of cake
Kylie’s mother, Lily, said on Reddit, “Kylie likes having extra money to feed her Starbucks addiction instead of working part-time in fast food or retail,” adding that she works as a babysitter. She added that her children “love meeting Kylie.”
“I’m glad she’s starting to learn responsibility. I think it’s a win overall.”
Last weekend, Lily and her sister Claudia were scheduled to go out for the afternoon, and Kylie was scheduled to babysit as usual.
“After several hours [Kylie] “When I got home from babysitting, my sister called me,” Lily said.
Two weeks ago, the family celebrated Mia’s 9th birthday and had a delicious lemon curd cake during the day.
“It was a fancy lemon curd cake that was custom made, and I remember at the party a lot of the kids didn’t want to eat it and there was a lot left over,” she said.
The leftover slices were left in a bread tin, and Kylie was so hungry that she ate two pieces of cake while babysitting her cousins.
Claudia was furious when she discovered that her niece had eaten a few slices for herself while watching the children.
“My sister said she should have asked for the cake before eating it and that the cake was expensive,” Lily wrote. “I apologized to her sister and told her to talk to her daughter.”
But that wasn’t enough, Claudia said again: “The cake was custom made and expensive.”
She then tells Lily that she should “compensate” for the missing slice.
“To be honest, at first I thought there was no way she would be serious about it, but she wanted me to give her the money because of the cake,” Lily said.

She made it clear that she would not give her sister the money for the cake, thinking that it would probably already be stale if left in the bread mold for two weeks.
Claudia didn’t give up, explaining that she spent $75 on the cake and 17-year-old Kylie ate a slice worth about $21.
“My sister says I was careless and that my daughter ate the slice without her permission,” Lily said.
“What difference would it have made if I ate it all last weekend or at my birthday party?”
“A cake that’s two weeks old is trash. Your daughter is family.”
People on Reddit couldn’t believe that Claudia would make such a request and argued that the compensation request was unreasonable.
Another said: “Your sister is so mean.” “After two weeks, the cake is trash. Your daughter is family. Your sister will be glad the cake didn’t end up in the trash.”
The community offered Lily to keep the peace by paying the requested amount, but refusing to let her babysit her daughter again unless certain rules were agreed upon in advance.
“Next time you need a babysitter, ask your daughter to charge you the full babysitter fee per child,” one commenter said.
The age of the cake also became a hot topic.
“A cake from two weeks ago?” someone asked. “Well, I think it’s worth less now. Give her 50 cents and a coupon for cupcakes at the supermarket.”
“Sorry, buddy. The moment this cake came off the lot it was worth at most $3 per slice,” said another. “If the trade goes well, it could probably go all the way to $4.”
“was [Claudia] Are you expecting all your party guests to join in for this expensive cake? Probably not,” a third person wrote.
