A Florida woman and her ex-boyfriend robbed an elderly man under the guise of a romantic date, police said.
Chelsea Wright, 34, and Andrew Marks, 33, were involved in a violent robbery scheme of a 73-year-old man, with injuries sustained in the area, according to a press release from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. required hospital treatment.
Police said the elderly victim arrived at a local hospital around 5 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, and gave a gruesome account of his interactions with Wright and Marks.
Police said the 73-year-old man told hospital staff he was meeting Wright at a Daytona Beach bar for a romantic date to discuss the couple’s relationship.

Police said Wright suggested the victim return to his home, and the victim agreed.
Police said the 73-year-old woman followed Wright to his Plantation Pines home in Ormond Beach, Florida, picking up Marks along the way and dropping him off near her home.
When the man got out of his car at Wright’s alleged home, Marks suddenly reappeared and allegedly hit him in the head with a metal object.

Police said the man continued to punch him until he fell to the ground.
Marks then stole the man’s wallet and fled the scene with Wright.

At the hospital, the victim was found with multiple wounds to his head, torso and arms, a large laceration to his head that required staples, and his eyes swollen shut.
After the victim’s date turned sour, police surveilled Ms. Wright and later stopped her for a traffic violation and found drugs in her car.

When questioned by detectives, she lied and said, “The assailant was an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease who I picked up on the street.”
Detectives then discovered text messages between Marks and Wright, who had planned a robbery and had previously dated.

Marks was found and arrested in Holly Hill early Friday morning on suspicion of robbery with a weapon and aggravated assault of a victim over 65 years of age.
According to police, Wright, the school’s principal, was arrested on similar charges.
