Notable items from Friday’s Mets’ Grapefruit League game:
Going Beatty
Brett Batty, who is competing with Mark Vientos to be the Mets’ third baseman, hit his first home run of the spring in his fifth game, hitting a slider from Rodery Munoz 383 feet to right.
“It felt really good,” Batty said. “When you put it on the barrel like this, it’s honestly hard to explain, but you don’t feel anything.”
Sean is wrong
Sean Manaea allowed seven hits in 2/3 innings, all in the first frame, giving up three runs.
The left-hander, who led with his fastball and played a changeup, slider and sweeper, said he is working on everything and is not worried.
“The results are what they are,” Manaea said. “But there are some good points as well.”
It caught my eye
In the fifth inning, speedy No. 4 outfielder Tyrone Taylor made a spectacular sliding catch to steal a hit from Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Sunday schedule
