It’s fair to say this is not one of the Premier League’s blue-riband fixtures but it’s an important game nonetheless. For Burnley in particular. Safety is not yet beyond full reach but lose to Bournemouth and, well, the gig looks pretty much done. Burnley have lost 10 of their 13 Premier League home games this season, and that cannot be allowed to continue. Bournemouth are not exactly flourishing. Their earlier season form has seen them right, but they have collected just three points in 2024. Problem is that Burnley have collected fewer than that. They’ve had bad runs before under Andoni Iraola, victory in the reverse fixture was his first league win, and the 10th attempt. It all adds up to an edgy affair, and one that could go either way.

important events
44 minutes: Free kick in a promising position after Cullen was brought down by Kluivert. That hurt, I hated it. A yellow card is given. VAR is considering the possibility of red, but for now he will remain on the field.
42 minutes: Burnley are still the closest. Fofana was one-on-one with Neto and the ball fell to Bruun Larsen, who Adam Smith slid in to block. Semenyo, on the other hand, has plans to bring down Bruun Larsen.
41 minutes: Turf Moor is very quiet. Bournemouth fans will have had an early start on the 570-mile round trip. Burnley fans are complaining.
39 minutes: Esteve trips Solanke who drew a foul. Free kick in a dangerous position. Tavernier receives it and hits it with his left, but it doesn’t reach the bottom of the bar.
37 minutes: Cook’s pass to the wing was intercepted and the ball returned to Trafford. Tavernier then took Assignon and Bournemouth opted to delay their attack rather than take the usual direct route. Neither team is very good at holding the ball.
35 minutes: The countertenor voice of great Vin Kompany can be heard filling the Lancashire air.
34 minutes: Bournemouth are starting to have the upper hand, so we’ll compress the game a bit more. Burnley can’t seem to put anything together. That being said, Odbert took a shot on goal and Neto looked on. Josh Cullen finally found a gap.
32 minutes: Have Burnley run out of ideas? It’s like that.
half an hour: Big Vin Kompany complains to the referee that Bournemouth are wasting his time. He also has an incident.
28 minutes: There were plenty of great passes for Burnley, but it was all a bit Swindon 1993-94 – pretty but ineffective. Bournemouth are happy to be back and seem to be enjoying it.
27 minutes: Duncan Edwards contacted me as follows: “My fantasy team desperately needs a big game week from a few players at Bournemouth, which is usually the kiss of death. Sorry Senesi and Solanke.”
Senesi is already on the team bus.
25 minutes: Odbert shoots…blocked and falls wide. He appears to be in pain, but he will recover quickly as referee David Coote waves play on. What are the possibilities?
24 minutes: Solanke and Kluivert connect and Tavernier hits the bar. If Bournemouth go on the attack it will be really dangerous.
23 minutes: Vitinho’s cross was cleared by Cullen with a little more effort. Assignon then got out of the dozing Tavernier, and Vitinho took another shot, but the shot went flying.
21 minutes: Corners are taken short. Esteve has a chance to shoot, but he can only connect with fresh air.
20 min: Bournemouth are defending well to shut down the channels Burnley are looking for. Players like Josh Cullen see a lot of the ball in midfield. After a long period of possession, Vitinho forces a corner kick.
18 minutes: Burnley continue to dominate possession. They are struggling to emulate the cutting-edge play displayed by Bournemouth. It was Lewis Cook who supplied Kluivert with the long ball.
16 minutes: Burnley want a penalty. Semenyo slips in and clears from Charlie Taylor. A VAR check ruled that it was a “kwakkukwak oops” and the spot kick was not awarded.
14 minutes: Big Vin Kompany is a sick man. And he has every right to do so. His team is having a hard time defending.
goal! Burnley 0-1 Bournemouth (Cluivert, 13)
Ah, Burnley. A long ball went in at the back, but Burnley were unable to clear the line and finished with their belts wrapped around them. James Trafford will not be able to keep a third clean sheet.
12 minutes: Chris Mepham replaces Bournemouth as Senesi limps away with his hamster. ah.
11 minutes: Senesi’s day at Bournemouth appears to be over. He shot the ball off the pitch and it fell to the ground. The signal is created so that the subwoofer is turned on. It seems like a muscle problem. “Geroff,” shouted one polite Burnley fan.
9 minutes: Bournemouth attack first and Tavernier slips out wide. I cleared it, but I need to hurry. That’s the danger visitors have. Shout out to Charlie Taylor, who hit the ball with a sliding move. It was a great play.
8 minutes: Free kick after Charlie Taylor was fouled. Bruun Larsen took the take again, but the angle was completely wrong for the attacking side of the ball. Big Bin enjoys the team’s performance. they were great.
6 minutes: Smith hacks the back. It was Burnley who pressed high here. They have corners. When Bruun Larsen takes, Fofana hesitates to take the ball.
4 minutes: The bad news for Burnley and Bournemouth at the moment is that Solanke is limping. Odbert forces Neto to make a low save.
3 minutes: Burnley got off to a strong start, but Zabalny’s good defending stopped Fofana from making a move. Vitinho also attempts a dizzying dribble, but ends up running off the path.
1 minute: Burnley hope to be woken up by a very loud PA system announcer. Vin Kompany, a big man, is chewing hard on the bench and seems very nervous.
Burnley’s O’Shea received a surprisingly early warning for wasting time trying to slow down Bournemouth’s throw. This should be the earliest reservation this season.
The team takes to the pitch: Can Burnley win their second home game of the season?
Vincent Kompany previously told Sky Sports: “The players have to show that on the pitch and we have to live it today on the pitch. I imagine it’s going to be a pretty interesting game today between both teams looking for a result. , I hope it will lead to results for us as well.
“I can’t miss this game today. I don’t want to think about anything else today except to get the three points. The only thing that’s important to me is for this team to show what they’re capable of. Which game But we are not the favorites and we are not the favorites today. We need to do our best to get a result and the only way to achieve that is to do our best from the beginning.”
Bournemouth manager Adoni Iraola told Sky Sports. “It’s difficult with so few games left. Every point is worth it and we want to win, especially after the game against Man City.” [loss] and newcastle [draw], we played well but didn’t get much – we need three points. We are in a good position football-wise and we have some players who are performing well, but it is true that defensively we have not played well in the past games.
“I hope I have a chance today and I can score a goal.”
A great interview with Henrik Larsson by Michael Butler.
For Burnley, Josh Brownhill was suspended, while midfielder Johan Berg Gutmundsson and forward Zeki Amdouni were placed on the bench. Vitinho, Josh Cullen and Jacob Bruun-Larsen will be featured. Bournemouth remain unchanged since their narrow loss to Manchester City, meaning Dom Solanke is fit to start. He missed midweek’s FA Cup defeat to Leicester.

preamble
It would be no exaggeration to say that this is not one of the most important matches in the Premier League, but it is still an important match. Especially for Burnley. The safety is not quite there yet, but we lost against Bournemouth and it looks like the job is pretty much done. Burnley have lost 10 of their 13 home games in the Premier League this season and cannot afford to continue this way. Bournemouth is not always thriving. They started the season right, but in 2024 they will only have three points. The problem is that Burnley have won fewer points than that. The come-from-behind victory was his first league win and his 10th, although they have struggled under manager Andoni Iraola. All of this adds up to an edgy affair that could go either way.
Kick-off is 1pm UK time. Please join us.
