Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Sunday took aim at former President Trump over his recent loss in the Republican election.
In her first interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” Haley said Trump has hurt the Republican Party’s chances in elections across the country since he was first elected.
“Ever since President Trump took office, since he became president, [Michigan] He lost the governorship, the state legislature, and from there the state senate. I went to Minnesota and the exact same thing happened. I went to Colorado, and since Donald Trump became president, there hasn’t been a single Republican elected over 45 percent in the entire state. “Go to Virginia, it’s the same thing where Glenn Youngkin was able to win the governorship, but he had to distance Donald Trump from himself,” Haley told NewsNation’s Chris Still. told Walt.
“Everything Donald Trump does, he loses,” she added.
Haley also emphasized that some polls show President Biden with a lead in a hypothetical general election matchup, and argued that she is the better candidate.
“I defeated Joe Biden by 18 points. This is more than the presidency. It’s the House, it’s the Senate, it’s the governor’s school board. It’s about getting our country back on track. Because , because if we enter Washington, D.C., with a double-digit victory, we will end wasteful spending by Republicans and Democrats and get the economy back on track,” she said.
Haley’s appearance came just before Super Tuesday, when 16 states vote for the presidential nomination. Although she trails Trump by double digits, she remains Trump’s only formidable candidate.
The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters polling average for a hypothetical election between Ms. Haley and Mr. Biden has the former South Carolina governor leading by just nearly 4 percentage points.
