March 3 (UPI) — This weekend’s Saturday Night Live opened with a comedy skit mocking those defending U.S. President Joe Biden’s age, energy and acumen.
In the five-minute segment, CNN anchor Dana Bash (played by Heidi Gardner) tells California Governor Gavin Newsom (Michael Longfellow) that many Americans believe that Democrat Biden, 81, has long ruled the country. He was shown giving an interview about polls that suggested he didn’t think he was smart enough to lead. If he wins re-election against Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump, 77, in November, he will have four more years to go.
The sketch features White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre (Ego Nwodim), Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (Marcelo Hernández), professional basketball player Draymond Green (Devon Walker) and others facing the camera. All of them have publicly stated the following. Biden is a clear dynamo “behind closed doors.”
Newsom implored voters to focus on Biden’s record, not his often confusing performance in speeches and press conferences.
“He created more jobs than any president in history. Inflation is falling. The Shamrock Sheik is back. [at McDonald’s] And Beyoncé went to the countryside. Thank you, Joe! ” Newsom added that he felt Biden was “lightning fast” in private meetings.
Jean-Pierre described Biden as “the most energetic man I’ve ever known,” citing his “fast-paced” daily schedule as proof of that, including teaching SoulCycle classes and speeding around the park. He said the program included a game of chess and a meeting with his chief of staff. He competes in push-up contests and eats five whole chickens and a raw potato for lunch.
The spokesperson went on to say that voters should only ask about Biden’s age if they are “afraid of wisdom.”
Mayorkas said he was tired of keeping up with Biden, who recently visited Texas to discuss how to deal with the staggering flow of asylum seekers coming from the U.S. southern border.
“He annihilated me,” Mayorkas said, adding that Biden went into “beast mode.”
“He parkoured his way to the top of the border wall. He did a front flip into the Rio Grande and came back with a fish in his mouth. But you didn’t report it, because… Because it doesn’t fit into your little story.”
“With all due respect, that doesn’t fit reality,” Bash countered.
Additionally, Greene said she could see that Biden “has a dog in him” when they recently spent time together.
“He’s strong! Joe has the strength of a grandpa monkey,” Green said.
