The Trump campaign on Sunday criticized Nikki Haley, who won her first Republican primary in Washington, D.C., calling her the “queen of the swamp.”
“Tonight’s results in Washington, D.C., reaffirm the purpose of President Trump’s campaign. He will drain the swamp and put America first,” said spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt. Ta Said in X, Previously on Twitter.
“Nicki has been roundly rejected across America, and now she’s been crowned Queen of the Swamp by lobbyists and people inside D.C. who want to protect the failed status quo,” she continued. “The swamp has claimed the queen.”
According to results from Decision Desk Headquarters, Ms. Haley won the district primary with 62.8% of the vote to Mr. Trump’s 33.3%. This is her first primary victory of the 2024 election cycle and comes just before the all-important Super Tuesday race.
The victory gave the former U.N. ambassador 19 Republican delegates, far short of the 1,215 needed to win the party’s nomination. Trump won each of his first six primaries and is expected to do well on Super Tuesday.
