A twice-convicted sex offender was stabbed to death at a Louisiana laundromat by a woman he had apparently intended to assault, authorities said.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 3, at approximately 3:30 p.m., after deputies were dispatched to a 911 call at a laundromat in the Lacombe area.
Nicholas Tranchant, 40, was found unresponsive with visible stab wounds and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said their investigation revealed that Tranchant, a known convicted sex offender, entered the laundromat with a sharp weapon and attempted to sexually assault the woman when she resisted. said it has become clear.

Officers said the woman was able to obtain a weapon and used it to stab the man, then fled to safety, claiming she acted in self-defense.
Deputies said a woman was also injured during the altercation and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
“We commend this brave woman for the courage and strength she showed in fighting back against her attacker and wish her continued recovery,” Sheriff Randy Smith said in a statement.

The deceased man was identified as 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant, who had been twice convicted of sex crimes in July 2003 and May 2008, according to the sheriff’s office. (WVUE)
The sheriff’s office confirmed that Tranchant was convicted in July 2003 of lewd acts against a juvenile. She was then convicted again in May 2008 on charges of attempted aggravated rape and aggravated robbery.

Tranchant will be released on these charges on Dec. 21, 2023, and will be required to register as a sex offender, officials said.
