Notable items from Monday’s Yankees game against the Grapefruit League:
Torrid Torres
Gleyber Torres was one of the few veterans on the trip and made his mark by going 2-for-3 with a double.
spencer’s gift
In the fifth inning, Spencer Jones hit a single into the left-field seats, but he immediately stepped up to bat with one out and first base and was hit by Anthony Volpe.
It caught my eye
Volpe, coming off a rookie season in which he won a Gold Glove Award as a shortstop, experienced ups and downs on the field Monday. He committed his second error of the spring in his sixth game, but it was also a deft double play. He hit a grounder, rushed forward, took a few steps to second base, and threw a strike over Tim Anderson’s slider to first base.
Tuesday schedule
The Yankees will end their two-game series on the East Coast against the Mets at 1:10 p.m. at Clover Park, where Clay Holmes will make his spring debut.
