Two Michigan men say their cousin’s abusive ex-husband approached them at a Lake Orion gym and sent them a barrage of questions about what happened to his missing girlfriend.

A series of photos provided by the men shows Ryan Bain, the former yachtsman whose girlfriend Sarm Heslop disappeared from a catamaran in 2021, at a Planet Fitness gym in February. .

They are the cousins ​​of his ex-wife, Cory Stevenson, who previously shared stories of physical abuse at the hands of Bain.

The men said Bain approached one of them and asked him if he had “killed anyone recently” before he began taking photos, a reference to Heslop’s unsolved disappearance. The last time she was seen leaving a bar was three years ago this week.

Bain then left without further comment.

After Heslop disappeared in 2021, Stevenson told Fox News Digital that Bain had a short temper and was so unstable that she couldn’t leave her home alone with her daughter. But she said he only assaulted her once.

She divorced him in 2011 after he was arrested for domestic violence, but on that occasion, while driving home from a wedding, he kicked her, dragged her out of the car in the driveway, and before he could get up, she shot her in the face. Mr Bain reported Mr Heslop missing on March 8, 2021. At the time, the Briton was based in the US Virgin Islands, working as a cook on a charter yacht and had previously worked as a flight attendant.

The couple went to dinner in St. John’s on March 7 and left around 10 p.m., but police have not officially confirmed whether they believe she returned to the yacht that night.

Bain called 911 around 2:30 a.m. on March 8 to report that he was missing from the ship.

Virgin Islands police told him to contact the Coast Guard, but reportedly did not do so for about 10 hours. Afterwards, the responding crew members allegedly refused to search the cabin.

Bain has not been charged with any crime in connection with Mr Heslop’s disappearance.

But her family continues to press for answers and are supported by David Johnston, former commander of the London Homicide Squad and the Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Serious Crime Commander.

Her family publicly acknowledged this week that she may no longer be alive, their supporters said in a statement Monday morning.

Bain’s attorney, David Catty, previously told Fox News Digital that his client would return to the Virgin Islands if Bain’s presence was “legally necessary.”

“Although Ms Bain had nothing to do with Ms Sahm’s disappearance, she remains heartbroken by her disappearance,” he said.

Police named Mr Bain a “person of interest” in the case, but they did not obtain a search warrant for the yacht, which is believed to have since changed hands.
