Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (Arizona) announced on Super Tuesday that she will not seek re-election.

Sinema’s move to switch from Democratic to independent party affiliation in 2022 narrows the race between Republican candidate Kari Lake and Democrat Ruben Gallego.

“Our democracy has been weakened by a dysfunctional government and the constant pull towards extremes by both political parties, and I promise to do my best to fix it,” Sinema said in a video announcement posted to X. I did,” he said.

He added: “The only important political victories these days have been symbolic ones, attacking opponents on cable news and social media. Compromise is a dirty word. We have reached that crossroads, and we have reached that crossroads, where anger and divisiveness can lead to anger and division. I chose it. I believe in what I believe in,” he added. But that’s not what America wants right now. ”
