Giants’ Xavier McKinney gets cryptic before NFL free agency

Other teams could begin negotiations with McKinney on Monday.

Through 49 games with the Giants, McKinney has nine interceptions.

In a more predictable decision, the Giants also chose not to use the franchise tag on star running back Saquon Barkley for the second year in a row.

The newspaper’s Ryan Dunleavy reported Tuesday that there were no contract offers from either party during the eight-week negotiation period, and no numbers were exchanged.

Barkley, who was selected No. 2 overall by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft, is expected to test free agency for the first time in his career.
