Returning to Buffalo for quarterback Mitch Trubisky and his family.
The former first-round pick and the Bills agreed to terms on a contract before free agency begins next week. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports. Wednesday.
This is a reunion for Trubisky, who spent the 2021 season in Buffalo as Josh Allen’s backup before moving to Pittsburgh the past two years.
Following Wednesday’s news, Trubisky’s wife Hilary posted a message of congratulations on her Instagram Story.
“Back to Buffalo,” Hillary wrote alongside a photo of the couple at Bills training camp. “I’m proud of you.”
Trubisky and Hilary, 29, married in July 2021 and spent part of their first year as a couple in Buffalo.
They welcomed son Hudson in May 2022, two months after the quarterback signed a two-year, $14.25 million contract with the Steelers.
Trubisky, the Bears’ No. 2 overall pick in 2017, began the 2022 season as the Steelers’ starter, replacing then-rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett.
In the Week 4 loss to the Jets, Trubisky was benched in the second half and was replaced by Pickett, who was later named the starter.
Entering the 2023 season, Trubisky signed a two-year extension with the Steelers.
He was named the starter in Weeks 14 and 15 of the season after Pickett suffered a high ankle sprain.
Trubisky struggled, and Pittsburgh turned to Mason Rudolph, leading to a wild-card spot.
The Steelers then released Trubisky last month.
Trubisky has 12,536 yards, 72 touchdowns and 48 interceptions in 69 career games.
The Bills, who defeated the Steelers in the wild-card round of the playoffs in January, are undergoing a major overhaul of their roster to stay under the salary cap.
Safety Jordan Poyer and cornerback Tre’Davious White are also among the players being released. According to NFL.comcenter Mitch Morse, plus defensive back Cilan Neal, wide receiver Deonte Harty and running back kicker Nyheim Hines.
