Liberal journalists and media figures praised President Biden’s State of the Union address, with some arguing that it made his detractors look foolish for expressing concerns about his age.
Former CNN journalist John Harwood, known as one of President Biden’s most sycophantic supporters in the media, ridiculed the president’s critics for saying they were concerned about his vitality.
”[T]”Democrats are complaining that Biden lacks energy and is now fighting with cold water thrown in his face,” he wrote, before adding, “This morning, it’s been a long time since Biden hasn’t had a job. People who are yelling look pretty stupid,” he added.
“My fellow Americans, the question facing our country is not how old we are, but how old our thinking is. Hatred, anger, revenge, and retaliation are the oldest. It’s a way of thinking,” CNN analyst Juliet Kayyem wrote, citing Biden’s speech. “Biden seems to have the perfect framework on the age issue.”

Journalist Bill Shah wrote, citing former President Trump and other conservatives, “You know Biden’s reaction to the Republican Party is to remove Republicans from ageist rhetoric.”
Paul Krugman, a left-wing columnist for the New York Times, said, “One idea: The whole Biden is too old thing was some kind of bubble, where people were buying it primarily because other people were buying it.” Was Biden just being Biden?” Will that bubble burst? ”
On ABC’s “The View,” Joy Behar said Biden was “amazing” and Sunny Hostin said Biden’s quip about his age was wise. Ana Navarro said Scranton Joe “was passionate,” adding that “Scranton Joe showed up and fought,” adding that he chanted “four more years” in his hotel room.
Politico’s Handbook He summed up the reaction to Biden’s speech as “generally positive,” adding, “It’s hard to imagine how SOTU could have gone any better for Biden.” The outlet also reported that expectations for Biden’s speech were very low.
“The flip side of the age attack on Biden was revealed yesterday. Unless Biden comes out and looks like a sluggish old man who can’t participate in a conversation or even finish a sentence, he’s in the lower ranks.” “He will rebel against the people,” Politico wrote, “Death Valley expectations placed on him.”
Biden criticizes Trump multiple times in State of the Union address
On the eve of Biden’s speech, a number of Democrats speaking anonymously told Axios they were “nervous” about Biden’s State of the Union address.
‘We’re all nervous,’ said one House Democrat. told Axioscited concerns about the 81-year-old’s “ability to talk without blowing things off.”
At one point, Biden appeared to misspell the name of Laken Riley, a Georgia student who was allegedly murdered by an illegal Venezuelan immigrant.
“Lincoln, Lincoln Riley,” Biden appeared to say her name incorrectly. “An innocent young woman killed by illegal aliens. That’s true, but how many out of thousands of people were killed by legal immigrants? What about her parents?”
But Republican lawmakers weren’t entirely convinced that Biden’s speech overcame concerns about his age.
“A lot of times it was difficult to understand what he was saying,” House said. freedom caucus Chairman Bob Good, Republican Party of Virginia. “He was kind of mumbling and slurring his speech.”
“We couldn’t understand him. He was so angry,” Republican Sen. Roger Marshall agreed. The volume went up and down.

In a notable political speech, Biden repeatedly attacked “my predecessor” without explicitly mentioning former President Trump by name. He also scolded the Supreme Court justices present for their decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022.
