The Trump campaign on Saturday released an ad that draws attention to President Biden’s several trips and falls, hours after the incumbent campaign released a spot touting the president’s age as an asset. he said nagging.
playing cards advertisementThe piece, titled “Not a Young Guy,” opens with the same opening footage as Biden’s campaign ad, with the president saying to the camera, “Look, I’m not a young guy.”
What follows is about 40 seconds of footage that shows Biden stumbling on the stairs, falling on his bike and appearing disoriented as he steps off the podium after speaking.
The campaign’s ad is the second time in recent days that pro-Trump groups have taken aim at the president over his age. Make America Great Again launched an ad earlier this week questioning whether Biden will survive to the end of his second term.
Biden’s age has been a persistent issue for the White House as he seeks re-election. The president, currently 81, will be 86 by the end of his potential second term.
Recent New York Times/Siena College Survey found 73 Percentage of registered voters said they strongly or somewhat agree that Biden is too old to be an effective president.
Trump, the likely Republican nominee, is 77 years old and will be 82 at the end of his second term if he wins in November. He has come under intense scrutiny for his own gaffes, including when he confused former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with Republican rival Nikki Haley.
The Biden campaign’s ad, released early Saturday, is scheduled to air in key battleground states and links the president’s age to his ability to get things done during his first term.
“Donald Trump believes the president’s job is to take care of Donald Trump,” Biden said in the ad. “The president’s job is to fight for the American people, and I believe that’s what I’m doing.”
In an excerpt at the end of the ad, Biden says, “Look, I’m so young, so energetic, so handsome. What the hell am I doing this for?”
