Lecce sack manager Roberto D’Aversa for headbutting Hellas Verona player | Lecce

Serie A club Lecce announced on Monday that they had sacked coach Roberto D’Aversa after he headbutted an opponent in the final minute of their game against Hellas Verona over the weekend.

D’Aversa headbutted Verona striker Thomas Henry shortly after Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat, but the club released a statement later the same day condemning the incident, calling the 48-year-old I was fired.

“Following the events that occurred after the end of the match between Lecce and Verona, Lecce USA has announced that Roberto D’Aversa has been fired as coach,” the club said in a statement.

    D’Aversa was shown a red card along with Henry, and the Lecce manager, who joined Lecce in June 2023, later apologized, saying his players had continued to be provoked in the final stages of the game.
