Trump confirms meeting with Musk

Former President Trump acknowledged Monday that he recently met with Elon Musk, but said he did not know whether the billionaire would support his re-election bid.

“I don’t know. I’ve been friendly with him for many years,” President Trump said on CNBC’s “SquawkBox.”

“I helped him. I helped him when I was president. I liked him. We clearly had opposing views on the minor subject of electric cars. “We are,” President Trump said. “I’m all for electric cars, but we need to have all the alternatives.”

The New York Times reported last week that Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk met privately, and Mr. Trump’s campaign is at a significant financial disadvantage compared to Democrats as it has been drained by legal fees. he pointed out.

Musk, the billionaire behind Tesla, SpaceX and X (the site formerly known as Twitter), later said he would not donate money to either presidential candidate.

Since acquiring X, Musk has used the platform to endorse prominent conservative and right-wing media figures, after the former president’s account was banned following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. brought Trump back.

Some of Musk’s posts about Biden were critical of the president and his policies, particularly regarding immigration. There has also been friction between Mr. Musk and the Biden administration after the White House did not include Tesla at a summit on investing in electric vehicles.

Musk had previously hinted that he voted for Biden in 2020, but the billionaire encouraged his followers to vote Republican in the 2022 midterm elections to keep Biden in check.
