Majority of Dems Oppose Certification of 2024 Election if Trump Wins

A Rasmussen Reports poll found Monday that 57% of Democratic voters oppose Congressional certification of the 2024 election if former President Donald Trump wins.

The poll asked voters the following questions: “Some Democrats in Congress have said they would vote against certifying the election results if Trump wins this year’s election because of his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. If Trump wins, would you support or oppose Democrats refusing to certify the election results?”

  • Fifty-seven percent of Democrats say they oppose certification.
  • Nearly two-thirds of “liberals” said they opposed certification.

But Democrats don’t hold a majority of voters’ opinions.

  • Overall, only 35% of all voters supported objecting to the certification of Trump’s victory.
  • Fifty-five percent oppose lawmakers refusing to certify Trump’s victory.

of poll sampled 912 likely voters from March 5th to 7th with a margin of error of 3 points.

A grand jury will be held in August 2023. was indicted Trump has pleaded to four charges related to January 6th. The charges include:

  • “Conspiracy to deceive the United States”
  • “Conspiracy to obstruct public proceedings”
  • “Obstruction and attempt to obstruct official proceedings”
  • “Conspiracy against rights”

The penalty for the alleged crime is up to 55 years in prison. A Justice Department spokesperson told Reuters: “President Trump does not face the possibility of the death penalty because the indictment did not include the ‘special certification’ needed to seek the death penalty.”
