Associated Press – Ukraine launched a wave of long-range drones against targets deep in Russia on Tuesday, hitting at least two oil facilities in attacks across eight regions of Russia, an expansion of Kiev’s drone capabilities said. Russian officials have announced that this is the latest evidence.
According to regional governor Gleb Nikitin, a drone attacked an oil refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region and set it on fire. The region is located approximately 775 kilometers (480 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
A drone was shot down in another heavy attack in the Moscow region, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. The drone landed far south of the city center, but near Zhukovsky Airport, one of Moscow’s four international airports.

Another drone struck an oil depot in Oryol, 116 kilometers (95 miles) from Ukraine.
The airstrike comes after Kremlin forces launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and comes as Ukraine is increasingly refining its domestic drone technology and threatening to bring the war to Russia. It seemed like a demonstration of impudence.
Last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said his country had developed a weapon capable of hitting targets 700 kilometers (400 miles) away, an apparent reference to drones.
Ukraine has also increased its deployment of drones in the Black Sea and claims to have sunk a Russian warship there.

Kiev’s military is counting on more military supplies from Ukraine’s Western allies, while also relying on larger and better-equipped Russian forces to mount an onslaught on certain front-line points inside Ukraine. I’m struggling.
Kiev is carrying out increasingly bold attacks behind a 1,500-kilometre (930-mile) front line that runs through eastern and southern Ukraine, coinciding with Russia’s presidential election. President Vladimir Putin is widely expected to win another six-year term, but Ukraine’s attacks on Russian territory could embarrass him.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced on Tuesday that a drone was intercepted over Russia’s Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Leningrad and Tula regions.
Separately, the ministry said one pillbox-U ballistic missile with a range of about 70 kilometers (40 miles) and eight Vampire missiles fired from a truck with a range of about 20 kilometers (12 miles) were fired. Over Belgorod.
Russia’s border defenses are also reportedly being tested, but it was not possible to independently verify battlefield reports from either side.

Roman Starovoit, the governor of Russia’s Kursk region, announced on Tuesday that Ukrainian fighters had attempted to invade the town of Tetkino, just across the border.
“There were sabotage and breakthrough attempts by reconnaissance groups. There was a gunfight, but there was no breakthrough,” he said in a video message on Telegram.
Meanwhile, Kiev authorities have claimed that Russian volunteer soldiers fighting for Ukraine also crossed the border into Russia several times during the war.
Soldiers from the Russian Free Corps, Russian Volunteer Forces and the Siberian Battalion published statements and videos on social media that they said showed scenes inside Russian territory. They said they wanted “a Russia free of Putin’s dictatorship.”
We were unable to independently verify the authenticity of the video.
The head of Ukraine’s intelligence service, Andriy Yusov, told Ukraiska Pravda that the military organization is made up of Russian nationals.
“On the territory of the Russian Federation, they operate completely autonomously and independently,” he said.
