Uvalde Police Chief Resigns Amid Report On Robb Elementary School Shooting

The Uvalde, Texas, police chief officially announced his resignation on Tuesday. This comes just days after several police officers involved in responding to the shooting at Robb Elementary School that killed 19 children and two adults were acquitted in a City Council report.

“After much thought and consideration, I believe the time is right to embark on a new chapter in my career,” Secretary Daniel Rodriguez said in a statement.

“I have had the privilege of serving the City of Uvalde and its residents for the past 26 years and have been honored to lead the dedicated men and women of the Police Department,” he continued.

Rodriguez was on vacation in Arizona during the shooting, when a teenage gunman entered a fourth-grade classroom and brutally murdered 21 people.

The resignation is effective April 6th.th.

“The City of Uvalde appreciates Chief Rodriguez’s 26 years of service to the community and wishes him the best of luck as he pursues new career opportunities,” Mayor Cody Smith said in a statement.

A Uvalde City Council report released last week cleared the law enforcement agencies involved in the shooting of any wrongdoing on May 24.thIn 2022, an analysis of a mass shooting found that law enforcement waited for tactical equipment to arrive for 77 minutes while students remained locked in classrooms.

Another 17 people were injured and the gunman died after a confrontation with police.

Meanwhile, parents and families affected by the tragedy disagreed with the report’s findings.
